I have taught a variety of courses in dramatic literature and poetry, theatre and film history, intermediality, performance theory, and theatrical technique courses.
In Spring 2013, I will be teaching a large lecture course at the University at Buffalo, TH 101: Introduction to Theatre. This is a class I’ve taught many times before, but I’ll be testing some new ideas about social media as pedagogy. Always in my thinking: in larger classes whether large lecture classes or online courses, how do you conduct discussion and teach the fundamentals of good reading and writing. I think a large lecture course is a great opportunity to try out some online techniques while still getting to talk to individual students.
In Fall 2013, I’ll be happy to welcome our first class of graduate students with a seminar on Theatre & Performance Research. This seminar will focus on the core research methods in theatre and performance studies, while looking at new techniques and technologies for analyzing and writing about theatre and performance. The class is open to students in any discipline and will be most useful to those who look at literature and text across disciplines or performativity in many contexts: media, art, culture, technology, among others.
